Ask a parent if their kids love eating vegetables, you’ll not surprise anymore about their answer.
Kids, nowadays, become more obsessed with the processed meat. Anything inside the colorful and with fancy designed box, they’ll going to love it.
One snowy day, my kids and I were waiting for their school bus to arrive (15 minutes late), I had a brief conversation with another dad. There I learned how hard for him to let his kids eat vegetables.
I understand him because my kids doesn’t really wanted to eat vegetables before, until my wife and I changes everything what’s on our table.
Here in this post, I am sharing to you these 3, just only 3 tips – how my kids ended up eating the vegetables they truly hate.
1. Timing is Everything. Know when your kids are hungry (mine is when they’re coming from school)
Before you do this step, make sure when they open the fridge, no other food except for veggie patties (I’ll explain you later why veggie patties). Kids will definitely eat 100% percent at this time, so take advantage of it.
During the transition stage, the first dish I served to them was Quinoa salad with dried fruits on it. My two kids stare on it like forever asking me why I am serving it to them.
If you’re kids ask the same question too, tell them, it’s tough love.
They will open the fridge, for sure, and when they’ll see a well rounded beautiful and colorful veggie patties inside. Chances are they’ll ask for it.
2. Incorporate the veggies on a patties. Tell them that it’s made of vegetables AFTER they fully ate it. Explain the benefits of eating it and you found out that their favorite superhero eat the same vegetables too.
So my kids avoided the Quinoa Salad yet they love my Quinoa and mushroom veggie patties. I simply focus on my goal which requires a little trick.
The most important thing here that make sure kids understand why they need these foods on their body. Kids trust us more than anyone else for we they look upon us.
Eat with them the same food they eat. Explain it to them that even Superman or whoever their favorite superhero is, eat the same quinoa patties with shredded carrots, pureed mushroom, mashed potatoes and chopped roasted peppers.
Definitely, kids will be inspired to eat it.
3. Cook with them. Involve them in a simple task like mixing or making a Quinoa spring rolls.
When you cook with kids, you teach them to be more responsible and healthy. You are developing your kids from A to Z.
Find time cooking with them. Everyone can cook. Start with a very simple dish like making a spring roll. Then you’ll notice, you start researching for more recipes. I suggest that you can also do simple baking like carrot cupcakes with them.
Don’t worry about kitchen tools, start with your home oven and if you have juicer at home, much better. You can make smoothies and juicing with the kids too. It’s fun and easy.
When cooking or even juicing with them, start with vegetables that are easy to prepare. Kids attention span are really short so I make sure that they will really be involved in cooking. I start teaching my kids with Quinoa. Now, its part of their lunch box already.
Teaching our kids to eat healthy food is a big challenge today. We should remember as parents that we are the one who controls what’s in our table. At the end of the day, it’s still us who will make it successful. Its true that with busy schedule around us, buying processed food is way lot easier than cooking. That’s why, being healthy is a not only a choice but it is also being discipline in every aspect.
What about you? Does your kid still hates vegetables? If not anymore, share us your tips just down below. Thanks.
